I'm Hoping... 3-28-2008 ...that we've had our last cold snap of the year. Man... it's been an emotional rollercoaster for me to sit and watch the weather forecast on the news for the last month. Cancelled trips and water temperature drops have marred an otherwise awesome fishing year thus far. When it has been good it has been really good. When these late season cold fronts have come through it has lowered water temps drastically and the bite turns off a good bit. This past week we had a cold front come through on Tuesday. The water temperature dropped from 70 degrees to 52 degrees in a matter of 48 hours. Needless to say, the bite slowed down on Thursday and Friday. Luckily it started to pick up today. But, I see even better days on the horizon. It's almost the end of March and we shouldn't see many more (if any) cold fronts and the bite should really take off. The water temperature at the end of fishing today was 69.5 degrees and warm days are forecasted ahead. We should see water temps hit the low to mid 70's and that will make everything in the NaCL H2O (saltwater) come alive. Tarpon made a brief appearance a couple of weeks ago before the latest few cold fronts. With the forecasted warming trend they should return. And if things continue to stay warm they should be here in full force in just a couple of weeks. Let's cross our fingers and pray that warmer weather is here to stay. We've had some really great days and some slow days through the past couple of weeks' changing weather. I did my best to manage expectations when things were looking bleak and I think we did a good job of beating those "managed" expectations and we did real well on the days that we were supposed to do well. With this warming trend we should see many many more smiles. The reds will be back where they should be, snook will sneak back out to the flats and tarpon should start showing up in good numbers. Great days are ahead. Don't miss out. Book a trip today.
