(Fishing with his son Cade)
Capt. Clay was practically born with a fishing pole
in his hands. He grew up in a house that overlooked
a large bass pond that was built
by his grandfather and he spent most of his childhood fooling
fish with artificial lures. Fast forward a little
and we find out that somehow between schoolwork and
fishing, Capt. Clay found time to play a little
baseball. He was good at it too. The New York
Yankees drafted Clay to pitch for them straight out of high
school. Clay signed with the Yankees to pursue a
professional baseball career and you'd think Clay's
addiction to fishing would be put on hold. But, God
found it fit to put Clay in the heart of the best
saltwater fishing in all of Florida. He moved to Tampa Bay
Florida to begin his professional baseball career
with the New York Yankees. Tampa Bay is the spring training home of the New
York Yankees. Everyday, Clay and a few of his
teammates would find time to hunt for new fishing spots before heading
off to the ball park or they would fish late into
the night after games. He's still not sure if
fishing was the demise of his baseball career or if
baseball was the open door to his fishing career. Either
way, one thing is for sure, Clay loves fishing and
he wouldn't trade it for any other sport in the
world.
Capt. Clay has fished the Tampa Bay area waters for
snook, redfish, trout, tarpon, and many other
species of fish for well over a decade now and he's
been very involved in the local fishing community.
He's been the owner and director for over 24 inshore fishing
tournaments and really enjoys meeting other
anglers. He competed in many professional redfish
tournaments through the years, 3 of which were on
the FLW
Wal-Mart Professional Redfish Tour where he and his
partner finished in 17th place out of 175 teams for
the 2007 season.
Over 10 years ago, Capt. Clay met his beautiful
wife, Paige, here in Tampa and they now have
two children; They have a son named Cade and a Daughter named
Claire. They currently reside in Land O Lakes FL
where Cade is quickly becoming Clay's #1 fishing
buddy. When Clay's not on the water with clients,
you can often find him fishing with his son on the
neighborhood lake or in Tarpon Springs helping Cade
catch his favorite fish, redfish.
