Tarpon
springs was named after the Majestic Tarpon that cruises it's
beaches in the summertime. They are a beautiful fish and a wonderful
fighter when hooked. They can weigh anywhere from 20lbs to 200lbs
and they are aerial fighters, meaning that they leap from the water
during the fight. Tarpon Springs also gets it name from the many
freshwater springs that dot the area. Some of which well up in the
saltwater flats. There are a few that are hundreds of feet deep and
they can be viewed by boat if you'd like to go see them.
